Saturday, May 17, 2014 – At 2:00 p.m. Rescue 56 was dispatched with Co. 37 Auburn to a report of kayakers in trouble on the Schuylkill River near Auburn. The Water Rescue team from Schuylkill Hose Co. was also requested to respond. Two kayaks had become pinned by high water, against debris at a railroad bridge over the Schuylkill River trapping the occupants. A rescue boat was launched from the bridge at Rt 895 and Fort Lebanon Road and removed the two victims to rescuers waiting on the nearby shore. Fortunately, neither was injured. The rescue was completed in just under one hour.
